Tinderbox is a "personal information assistant" from Eastgate Systems Inc. that allows you to store free-form notes and ideas, link and browse them in a variety of ways, export them as HTML or outlines, create active processing agents, rules, and more. Other features include object-oriented note inheritance, prototypes, and attributes; a variety of views (maps, outlines, charts, timelines, tree maps, attribute browser/inspector); and built-in help. The new Version 8 brings "hyperbolic views" (see below), filtered outlines (to help "focus your attention"), scripting and the ability to " brainstorm even more quickly: just drag a link to an empty space to create a new linked note." I back up to multiple locations, including network drives. This is the only program I found that consistently completed large backups to network drive without getting hung up when there were intermittent network problems or individual file lock or permission issues.
